“A clothing company in Perth commissioned a portrait of James Dean. They gave me a buckle with James Dean’s profile on and wanted a portrait bust of James Dean similar to the buckle. It was to go in their display window. I thought it was an awful buckle! When I create a portrait I strive for truth. I do research trying to get to the real person and this can sometimes take months. The bust shows the stripped bare James Dean. Needless to say, the clothing company rejected the bust. I never consider any piece a waste of time, as each one adds to my knowledge of sculpture, people and the world.”
